Product Detail : pH-7001 Flat Surface pH Electrode
Introduction to pH Measurement Principle
The pH measurement principle of the pH-7001 flat surface pH electrode is based on electrochemical methods and the principle of a primary cell. A primary cell is a system that converts chemical energy into electrical energy. The voltage of this cell is known as electromotive force (EMF). The EMF is composed of two half-cells: one is the measurement half-cell, whose potential is related to the specific ion activity; the other is the reference half-cell, commonly called the reference electrode, which is generally connected to the measurement solution and the measuring instrument. The potential difference generated by the internal primary cell reaction within the electrode is transmitted to the pH controller, where the corresponding algorithm transmits and displays the pH value.

Electrode Slope:
The slope of the glass electrode is theoretically 59.16mV at 25°C, meaning the glass electrode produces a potential change of 59.16mV for each pH unit change in the solution. In practice, no glass electrode can achieve 100% of the theoretical value; typically, the electrode slope is above 95% of the theoretical value (percentage slope). Additionally, the mV difference per pH unit varies with temperature.
Temperature Corresponding Potential Difference Conversion:
△E = 59.16 * [(273 + T) / 298] * △pH
Usage Precautions for pH Electrodes:
1. The electrode lead wire is a special shielded cable; customers are prohibited from cutting the lead wire, and any consequences arising from such actions are not the responsibility of the manufacturer.
2. Avoid long-term immersion in distilled water or protein solutions, and prevent contact with organic silicon oils.
3. For electrodes that have been in use for a long time, the glass membrane may become transparent or have deposits; in such cases, wash with dilute hydrochloric acid and rinse with water.
4. If the electrode cannot be calibrated or perform normal measurements after maintenance and care, it indicates that the electrode cannot be restored and should be replaced.
5. The pH electrode wire is not waterproof; efforts should be made to avoid contact with water.
